Key takeaways

  • The decisive question is whether the drum is physically removed. Many services only run a chemical cycle.
  • Ask about insurance, licensing and whether the crew are employees or subcontractors.
  • Typical Singapore market pricing runs $150–$350 depending on machine type and depth.

There are a growing number of washing machine cleaning services in Singapore and the quality varies more than the pricing does. This page is about how to tell them apart, including the questions that reveal whether you are getting a genuine deep clean or a chemical rinse with a service fee attached.

What separates a real deep clean from a chemical rinse

The single most important distinction: is the drum physically removed?

Some services pour a strong cleaning agent into the machine, run a hot cycle and leave. That is a chemical rinse. It reaches the same surfaces your own drum-clean cycle reaches, which means the residue on the drum’s outer face — the actual cause of persistent odour — remains.

A genuine deep clean involves dismantling: the casing comes off, the drum comes out, and the hidden surfaces are cleaned directly. It takes one to three hours, not twenty minutes. If a quote seems unusually cheap and the job is quoted at under an hour, this is almost certainly the difference.

Six questions worth asking before you book

  1. Is the drum physically removed, or is this a cleaning-agent cycle? The most important question.
  2. How long does the job take? Under an hour means no dismantling.
  3. Are your crew employees or subcontractors? This affects accountability if something goes wrong.
  4. Are you insured, and for how much? Ask for the figure, not just a yes.
  5. What happens if the machine does not work afterwards? A confident provider will have a clear answer.
  6. Will you tell me if I do not need the service? The answer tells you what kind of business it is.

Typical market pricing in Singapore

Across the Singapore market, washing machine cleaning generally runs from about $150 to $350 depending on machine type and whether the service is a standard clean or a full deep clean. Top loaders sit at the lower end, front loaders and 2-in-1 combos at the higher end because they take longer and have more components.

Pricing much below that range usually indicates a chemical-cycle service rather than a dismantling deep clean. That is not automatically bad value if that is what you want — but it is worth knowing which you are buying.

Sureclean’s published rates are $188 for a top loader and $288 for a front loader or combo, with deep clean options at $200 and $350.

Our 4-step on-site method

Every job below is carried out by our own crew as part of Sureclean’s washing machine cleaning service, on site at your home in Singapore. The method is the same whichever machine type you have — only the time on site changes.

1. Dismantle on site

The outer casing comes off and the inner drum is lifted out — in your bathroom or service yard. Nothing is taken away to a workshop.

2. High-pressure deep clean

The hidden outer surface of the drum, the housing, filter, rubber gasket and detergent dispenser are washed down with a high-pressure jet. This is the surface a wash cycle can never reach.

3. Sanitise

The full drum assembly is treated with sanitiser, then rinsed.

4. Reassemble and test-run

The machine is rebuilt and put through a full test cycle before our crew leaves, so you see it working.

What we actually find inside Singapore machines

On a typical three-to-five year old HDB machine that has never been opened, the outer drum surface carries a grey-black film of detergent scum mixed with mould. It is not visible from the door — you only see it once the drum is lifted out. In humid Singapore flats where the machine sits in an enclosed service yard or bathroom, this builds faster than in drier climates because the drum rarely dries out fully between washes.

Front loaders additionally trap residue in the rubber door gasket fold, which is where most musty smells originate. Top loaders tend to collect scum on the outer drum wall and under the pulsator plate.

When you do not need us

If your machine is under a year old, has no smell and leaves no marks on clothing, a monthly hot maintenance wash with a proper machine cleaner is genuinely enough. Deep cleaning is worth paying for when the smell keeps returning after cleaning cycles, when black flecks appear on laundry, or when the machine has never been opened up. We would rather tell you that than sell you a job you do not need.

We will answer all of them straight, including telling you if your machine does not need the service.

Frequently asked questions

What should I look for in a washing machine cleaning service in Singapore?

The decisive factor is whether the drum is physically removed rather than just running a cleaning agent through the machine. Also check insurance cover, whether crews are employees or subcontractors, and how long the job is quoted to take. Under an hour means no dismantling.

How much should washing machine cleaning cost in Singapore?

Typically $150 to $350 depending on machine type and service depth. Top loaders are at the lower end, front loaders and 2-in-1 combos higher. Prices well below that range usually indicate a chemical-cycle service rather than a dismantling deep clean.

Is a cheaper chemical-cycle service worth it?

It can be, if you only want light maintenance and know that is what you are buying. It will not remove established build-up on the drum’s outer surface, so it will not fix a persistent smell.

What makes Sureclean different?

We dismantle every machine on site, we are NEA Class 3 licensed and insured for S$1m, our crews are employed staff on MOM permits rather than subcontractors, and we will tell you when your machine does not need the service.

Key takeaways

  • Mould grows on the drum’s outer face, in the gasket fold and in the dispenser channels.
  • Running bleach through the machine does not remove established mould — it lightens the colour.
  • From $188. The drum comes out so the mould can be physically removed.

Washing machine mould is extremely common in Singapore and is not a sign of a dirty household. It is what happens when a warm, damp, enclosed metal and rubber environment never gets the chance to dry out. The question is only how to remove it properly.

Where mould actually grows

  • The door gasket fold (front loaders) — the most common site by a wide margin
  • The drum’s outer face — mixed into the detergent scum layer
  • The detergent dispenser channels — especially the softener compartment
  • The drain filter housing — standing water plus trapped lint

Only the first and third are reachable by hand. The other two require the machine to be opened.

Why bleach cycles do not fix it

Running bleach through a machine is the most common DIY response, and it produces a misleading result: the mould goes pale and looks gone.

Bleach de-pigments mould rather than removing it. The organic matter stays on the surface, and because it is now colourless, it looks solved for a week or two until it darkens again. Meanwhile the scum layer it is growing in is untouched.

Physical removal is the only reliable method. Never mix bleach with vinegar or any acidic cleaner — that produces chlorine gas, which is genuinely dangerous in a small enclosed service yard.

Frequently asked questions

Does bleach remove washing machine mould?

Not really. Bleach removes the pigment so the mould looks gone, but the organic matter stays on the surface and darkens again within weeks. Physical removal is the only reliable method. Never mix bleach with vinegar or other acidic cleaners.

Is washing machine mould dangerous?

For most households it is an odour and laundry-freshness problem. For people with asthma or mould allergies it can aggravate symptoms, so it is worth dealing with promptly if anyone in the home is sensitive.

Will the mould come back after cleaning?

Not quickly, if you change the conditions that caused it: leave the door ajar after every wash, wipe the gasket weekly, and use less detergent. Without those habits it will gradually return.

Key takeaways

  • Monthly hot maintenance wash, quarterly filter clear, deep clean every 12–18 months.
  • Most international guides say every 2–3 years for a deep clean. That guidance assumes a drier climate.
  • Signs beat schedules — if it smells, it is due regardless of the calendar.

Short answer: run a hot maintenance wash monthly, clear the filter quarterly, and have the drum physically deep cleaned every 12 to 18 months. That last interval is shorter than most guides recommend, and there is a specific reason for it in Singapore.

The schedule

  • After every wash — leave the door ajar to let the drum dry
  • Weekly — wipe the door gasket fold (front loaders)
  • Monthly — empty hot wash at 60°C+ with a machine cleaner
  • Quarterly — clear the drain pump filter
  • Every 12–18 months — physical drum deep clean

Why Singapore is different

Most washing machine guidance is written for temperate climates, where a machine sits in a ventilated utility room and the drum dries fully between washes. Those guides commonly suggest a deep clean every two to three years.

Singapore machines sit in enclosed service yards or bathrooms at 80%+ humidity, and mostly wash cold. The drum does not dry, and cold water leaves more undissolved detergent behind. Both accelerate the same process, which is why we see machines here reaching in three years the state a European machine might reach in seven.

If your machine smells, leaves marks on clothes, or has never been opened and is over three years old, it is due — whatever the calendar says.

Frequently asked questions

How often should you clean your washing machine?

Run an empty hot maintenance wash monthly, clear the drain filter quarterly, and have the drum physically deep cleaned every 12 to 18 months in Singapore conditions. Leave the door ajar after every wash.

Why do Singapore machines need cleaning more often than overseas guides suggest?

Local humidity means the drum never fully dries between washes, and most households wash in cold water which leaves more undissolved detergent behind. Both accelerate build-up, so the 2 to 3 year interval common in overseas guides is too long here.

Is monthly too often for a hot maintenance wash?

No. An empty hot cycle costs very little and is the main thing preventing build-up between deep cleans.

Access and building management

Most condo managements ask contractors for proof of insurance and a company registration before granting access. We carry S$1,000,000 public liability cover, an NEA Class 3 licence (NEA240120/6509C/C3/N01) and UEN 201316509C, and can send these across before the appointment if your management office requires them.

Our crews are employed staff on valid MOM work permits and arrive in Sureclean uniform, which is generally what management is checking for.

Built-in, stacked and cabinet-enclosed machines

Condo laundry is frequently a stacked washer and dryer, or a machine built into a kitchen or utility cabinet. Both need the machine partially withdrawn to open the casing.

We do this carefully and return everything to position. Where a unit is fully integrated behind a cabinet panel, send us a photo first — occasionally the installation genuinely does not allow safe removal, and we would rather tell you that before you book than discover it on the day.

Why HDB machines build up faster

Almost every HDB washing machine sits in an enclosed service yard or a bathroom. Both are small, humid, and have limited airflow. The drum never fully dries between washes, so mould has continuous moisture.

Add the common local habit of washing in cold water — which does not fully dissolve detergent — and you get the exact conditions for scum and biofilm to form on the drum’s outer surface.

This is why we suggest 12 to 18 months between deep cleans here, where the same machine in a drier climate might reasonably go several years.

Working in a small service yard

Our crew dismantles the machine in place. We lay down protective sheeting, work within the yard or bathroom footprint, and contain the water. The machine does not need to leave the flat and in most cases does not need to be moved far from its position.

If your yard is particularly tight, send a photo over WhatsApp and we will tell you honestly whether access is workable before you book.

Frequently asked questions

Can you clean a washing machine in a small HDB service yard?

Yes, that is the majority of our work. The crew lays protective sheeting and dismantles the machine in place, containing the water. The machine does not leave your flat. If access looks very tight, send a photo first and we will confirm honestly.

Do you need to move the machine out of the yard?

Usually not far. Most jobs are done with the machine broadly in position. Where the yard is extremely tight we may need to shift it slightly to open the casing.

Which HDB towns do you cover?

All of them. Sureclean operates islandwide seven days a week, and there is no travel surcharge for any Singapore location.

Tub Clean — what it does and does not do

Most Toshiba machines include a Tub Clean programme. It runs an empty high-temperature soak cycle. Run it when the machine prompts you — it is good routine maintenance and it costs nothing.

What it cannot do is scrub. It circulates hot water past the drum surfaces, which helps on a machine that is already clean and does comparatively little for one with an established layer of detergent scum on the drum’s outer face.

If your Toshiba still smells after running it, that is the clearest signal that the residue is on a surface the cycle never reaches.

  • Toshiba front load ranges

If you are unsure of your model, send us a photo of the machine and the sticker inside the door frame over WhatsApp and we will confirm the type and the exact price.

Washing machine cleaning prices in Singapore

Machine type Standard clean Deep clean Typical duration
🧻 Top Load $188 $200 1–2 hours
👕 Front Load $288 $350 2–3 hours
🔄 Washer-Dryer Combo $288 $350 2–3 hours
Published Sureclean rates. Final price confirmed by our team before booking.

Frequently asked questions

What does Toshiba’s Tub Clean actually do?

It runs an empty high-temperature cycle to discourage build-up on the inner drum. It is worth running monthly, but it circulates hot water rather than scrubbing, so it cannot clean the drum’s outer surface where persistent odour develops.

Will cleaning void my Toshiba warranty?

Our crew dismantles and reassembles to the manufacturer’s sequence and test-runs the machine before leaving. If your machine is still within Toshiba’s warranty period, check your warranty terms first, as some brands require authorised servicing.

Does the Toshiba tub clean cycle need a cleaning agent?

It works better with one. Running it with plain water gives a mild result; running it with a proper machine cleaner is meaningfully more effective. Neither reaches the drum’s outer surface.

How much does Toshiba washing machine cleaning cost?

From $188 for a Toshiba top loader and from $288 for a Toshiba front loader or washer-dryer combo. The job takes one to three hours in your home.

Hitachi top loaders are common in older HDB flats — do older machines still benefit?

Often more so. An older machine that has run for eight or ten years without ever being opened typically carries the heaviest build-up we see, and the improvement after cleaning is correspondingly larger. Age alone is not a reason to skip it.

How much does Hitachi washing machine cleaning cost?

Key takeaways

  • We cover washing machines, tumble dryers, washer-dryer combos and dryer vents.
  • Doing the washer and dryer in one visit costs less than two separate visits.
  • From $188 per appliance depending on type.

Most Singapore homes have their laundry appliances in one enclosed service yard or bathroom — which is exactly the environment that causes all of them to accumulate residue at the same rate. It usually makes sense to deal with them together.

Appliances we clean

  • Washing machines — top load, front load, all major brands
  • Tumble dryers — vented, condenser and heat pump
  • Washer-dryer combos — 2-in-1 units
  • Dryer vents and ducting — lint clearance

Why it is worth doing them in one visit

Two reasons. First, cost: one crew visit covering both appliances is less than two separate call-outs.

Second, and more practically: a clean washing machine feeding a clogged dryer still gives you damp, stale-smelling laundry. The two appliances share the same humid enclosed space and the same air. Cleaning one and not the other frequently leaves the customer thinking the service did not work.

Frequently asked questions

Can you clean my washing machine and dryer in the same visit?

Yes, and it works out cheaper than two separate visits. It is also more effective, because the two appliances share the same enclosed humid space and cleaning only one often leaves the laundry problem unsolved.

Do you clean heat pump dryers?

Yes. Heat pump dryers have no external vent but do have condenser and lint filter systems that clog and reduce efficiency in the same way.

How much for both a washer and a dryer?

It depends on the machine types. Message us with what you have and we will quote the combined visit before you commit.

Key takeaways

  • 2-in-1 units run wash and dry cycles through the same drum, so lint and detergent residue combine.
  • Combos typically need cleaning more often than a separate washer, not less.
  • From $288, 2–3 hours on site.

Washer-dryer combos (2-in-1 units) are popular in Singapore condos and smaller flats where there is only room for one appliance. They are convenient, and they accumulate residue faster than a standalone washing machine for a specific reason.

Sureclean at a glance

Why 2-in-1 units build up faster

A combo does both jobs in the same drum. That means lint shed during the drying cycle lands on surfaces still coated with detergent residue from the wash cycle. Wet detergent film plus dry lint makes a compacted deposit that is considerably more stubborn than either alone.

Combos also usually have a condenser system for the drying function, which collects its own lint and moisture and is another place residue accumulates.

The practical consequence: if you have a 2-in-1, plan on cleaning it at least as often as a separate washer, and ideally more.

What a combo clean covers

  • Inner and outer drum, both faces
  • Door gasket, in and under the fold
  • Drain pump filter and housing
  • Condenser lint filter and accessible condenser surfaces
  • Detergent dispenser and channels
  • Sanitising and a full test cycle on both wash and dry

Frequently asked questions

Do washer dryer combos need cleaning more often?

Yes. Because wash and dry cycles run through the same drum, lint from drying settles onto detergent residue from washing, creating a compacted deposit. Combos generally need cleaning at least as often as a standalone washer.

Do you clean the condenser on a combo unit?

Yes, the condenser lint filter and accessible condenser surfaces are included, as they collect lint and moisture and contribute to odour.

How long does a combo clean take?

Two to three hours, and we test-run both the wash and dry functions before leaving.

Key takeaways

  • Lint accumulating in the vent duct is a recognised fire hazard and the most common cause of long drying times.
  • If clothes need two cycles to dry, the vent is usually the cause — not the machine.
  • Vent cleaning is quoted per job; message us with your setup for a price.

Every drying cycle sheds lint. The filter catches most of it, but a portion passes through and settles in the vent duct behind the machine. Over years that restricts airflow, which makes the dryer work harder, run hotter and take longer — and creates a genuine fire risk.

Why vents block in Singapore homes

Most Singapore dryers sit in an enclosed service yard or bathroom with a short vent run to an external louvre. Short runs block faster than long ones because the lint has less duct to distribute across, and the humid air outside means lint arriving at the louvre is damp and sticks rather than blowing clear.

Condenser and heat-pump dryers have no external vent, but they do have a condenser unit and lint trap that clog the same way.

Warning signs your vent needs clearing

  • Clothes still damp after a full cycle, or needing a second run
  • The dryer or the laundry feeling unusually hot at the end of a cycle
  • A burning or scorched smell during drying
  • Visible lint around the external louvre, or the louvre flap not opening
  • The room becoming humid while the dryer runs

A burning smell means stop using the dryer and get it checked. That one is not a convenience issue.

Frequently asked questions

Is a blocked dryer vent really a fire risk?

Yes. Lint is highly combustible and a restricted vent causes the dryer to run hotter than designed. Blocked vents are a recognised cause of appliance fires, which is why regular clearing matters beyond just efficiency.

How often should a dryer vent be cleaned?

Annually for most households, and more often for large families or anyone drying bedding and towels frequently. If drying times have crept up, it is overdue regardless of when it was last done.

Do condenser dryers need vent cleaning?

They have no external vent, but they do have a condenser unit and lint filters that clog in the same way and cause the same efficiency loss. Those need regular clearing too.

Key takeaways

  • Weekly: wipe the gasket and leave the door ajar. Monthly: hot maintenance wash. Quarterly: clear the filter.
  • Every 12–18 months: a physical drum deep clean, given Singapore humidity.
  • Maintenance is far cheaper than restoration — a maintained machine never needs an overhaul.

Most washing machine problems we are called for were entirely preventable. This page sets out the maintenance schedule that keeps a machine from ever reaching the state where a deep clean is urgent.

The schedule

  • After every wash — leave the door ajar so the drum dries. In Singapore’s humidity this is the single highest-value habit.
  • Weekly — wipe inside the door gasket fold (front loaders) with a dry cloth.
  • Monthly — run an empty hot wash (60°C+) with a proper machine cleaner, and rinse the detergent drawer.
  • Quarterly — clear the drain pump filter.
  • Every 12–18 months — book a physical drum deep clean.

The habits that matter most

If you only change two things: leave the door open between washes, and use less detergent than the bottle says. Singapore’s water is soft, and most households badly overdose detergent, which is the direct cause of the scum layer we find on drums.

Overdosing does not make clothes cleaner. It leaves residue in the machine and on fabric.

Frequently asked questions

How often should a washing machine be professionally cleaned in Singapore?

Every 12 to 18 months. Local humidity and the enclosed service yards common in HDB flats and condos mean drums rarely dry fully between washes, so build-up develops faster than in drier climates.

Does using less detergent really help?

Yes, significantly. Singapore’s water is soft, so most households overdose detergent. The excess does not wash away; it deposits as scum on the drum surfaces and is the primary cause of the layer we find during deep cleans.

Can maintenance replace a deep clean?

It can prevent you ever needing an urgent one, but it cannot remove build-up that has already formed on the drum’s outer surface. Start from a clean baseline, then maintain.

Key takeaways

  • An overhaul is our deepest service — the machine is stripped down further than a standard clean.
  • Suited to machines over five years old, or that have never been opened.
  • Overhaul is priced as our deep clean: $200 top load, $350 front load.

A washing machine overhaul is a full strip-down clean. Where a standard service removes the drum and cleans it, an overhaul goes further into the housing, pump area and hoses. It is the right service for a machine that has never been opened, or one you want restored before selling a property or handing over to a tenant.

What an overhaul covers beyond a standard clean

  • Inner and outer drum, both faces, high-pressure cleaned
  • Drum housing and the cavity behind it
  • Pulsator plate lifted (top load) or door gasket fully worked (front load)
  • Drain pump filter, impeller housing and visible hoses cleared
  • Detergent dispenser and the channels behind the drawer
  • Extended sanitiser dwell time, then full rinse
  • Reassembly and a complete test cycle

When an overhaul is worth it over a standard clean

Choose an overhaul if the machine is over five years old, has never been serviced, has a smell that has persisted for months, or is being prepared for handover.

A standard clean is enough for a machine under three years old, or one on a regular maintenance schedule. We will tell you honestly which you need if you send us the age and a photo.

Frequently asked questions

What is a washing machine overhaul?

A full strip-down clean. The drum is removed and both faces are high-pressure cleaned, along with the housing, pump filter, hoses, dispenser and gasket, followed by extended sanitising and a test run. It is our deepest cleaning service.

Is an overhaul the same as a repair?

No. An overhaul is a cleaning service. If we find a mechanical fault such as a worn bearing or failed pump we will tell you, but repairs are a separate trade and we will not add them to your bill without asking.

How much does an overhaul cost?

It is priced as our deep clean: $200 for a top loader and $350 for a front loader or washer-dryer combo.

Key takeaways

  • Front loaders have a drain pump filter behind a small hatch at the bottom front. Most top loaders have a lint filter inside the drum instead.
  • Cleaning it takes about ten minutes and you should do it every one to three months.
  • Put a towel and shallow tray down first — it will release standing water.

The drain pump filter is the one part of a washing machine most people never open, and it is the easiest to clean yourself. This page shows you how, and is honest about the cases where a clean filter will not solve your problem.

Where the filter is on your machine

Front loaders: behind a small hinged hatch or removable panel at the bottom front, usually on the right. Some models have a small drain hose tucked beside it.

Top loaders: most do not have a drain pump filter. Instead they have a mesh lint filter clipped inside the drum wall, which lifts out for rinsing.

How to clean it yourself

  1. Switch the machine off at the wall.
  2. Lay a towel down and put a shallow tray or baking dish in front of the hatch. There will be water.
  3. Open the hatch. If there is a small drain hose, use it to drain the water first — it is much less messy.
  4. Unscrew the filter cap anticlockwise and pull the filter out.
  5. Clear the lint, hair, coins and debris. Rinse it under a tap and use an old toothbrush on the mesh.
  6. Check inside the housing with a torch and clear anything left in the impeller.
  7. Refit firmly — a loose filter leaks. Run a short cycle and check for drips.

Every one to three months is a sensible interval, more often if you wash a lot of towels or pet bedding.

When cleaning the filter will not help

A clogged filter causes drainage problems, error codes and a localised bad smell. If your issue is a musty smell across the whole drum, black flecks on clothing, or laundry that never smells fresh, the filter is not your cause — the outer drum surface is.

Clean the filter anyway, since it takes ten minutes. But do not expect it to fix a drum problem.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I clean my washing machine filter?

Every one to three months for a typical household, and more often if you regularly wash towels, bedding or pet items. It takes about ten minutes.

Why is there water when I open the filter?

The filter housing sits at the lowest point of the drainage system and always holds standing water. Put a towel and shallow tray down before opening, or use the small drain hose beside the filter if your model has one.

What happens if I never clean the filter?

Drainage slows, the machine may show a drainage error or fail to spin, and the trapped debris develops a smell. In severe cases the pump strains and fails early.

Do top load washing machines have a filter?

Most do not have a drain pump filter. They usually have a mesh lint filter clipped inside the drum wall that lifts out for rinsing under a tap.

LG Tub Clean — what it does and does not do

LG machines include a Tub Clean cycle and will show a reminder after a set number of washes. It runs a high-temperature empty cycle and it is worth running monthly.

Like every manufacturer’s equivalent, it circulates hot water rather than scrubbing. It maintains a clean machine well and does comparatively little for one with established build-up on the outer drum surface.

LG models we service

  • LG front load — TurboWash, AI DD, Vivace ranges
  • LG TWINWash units, including the lower mini drum
  • LG top load — Smart Inverter and standard ranges
  • LG washer-dryer combo units

TWINWash units take slightly longer because the mini drum is cleaned as well. We will confirm the price when you tell us the model.

Frequently asked questions

What does LG Tub Clean do?

It runs an empty high-temperature cycle to discourage build-up on the inner drum, and the machine prompts you after a set number of washes. It is good routine maintenance but it cannot clean the drum’s outer surface where persistent odour develops.

Do you clean LG TWINWash mini drums?

Yes. The lower mini drum is cleaned as part of the service. TWINWash units take a little longer than a standard front loader, and we will confirm the price when you tell us the model.

How much does LG washing machine cleaning cost?

From $188 for an LG top loader and from $288 for an LG front loader, TWINWash or washer-dryer combo.

Samsung Eco Drum Clean — useful, but not a deep clean

Most Samsung machines include an Eco Drum Clean cycle, and the machine will prompt you to run it every forty washes or so. Run it — it is genuinely good maintenance and it is free.

What it does is run an empty high-temperature cycle to discourage build-up on the inner drum. What it cannot do is clean the outer drum surface, because no water jet in a normal cycle is aimed at it.

If your Samsung still smells after running Eco Drum Clean, that is the clearest possible signal that the residue is on surfaces the cycle does not reach.

Samsung models we service

  • Samsung front load — EcoBubble, AddWash, Bespoke AI ranges
  • Samsung top load — Activ DualWash and standard ranges
  • Samsung washer-dryer combo units

If you are not sure of your model, send a photo of the machine and the sticker inside the door frame over WhatsApp and we will confirm the type and price.

Frequently asked questions

Does Samsung Eco Drum Clean actually clean the machine?

It is effective maintenance for the inner drum and you should run it when prompted. It cannot clean the outer drum surface, which is where persistent odour originates. If the smell survives Eco Drum Clean, a physical deep clean is needed.

Will cleaning void my Samsung warranty?

Our crew dismantles and reassembles to the manufacturer’s sequence and test-runs the machine before leaving. If your machine is still within Samsung’s warranty period, check your warranty terms, as some conditions require authorised servicing.

How much does Samsung washing machine cleaning cost?

Key takeaways

  • The door gasket is the most common source on front loaders; the outer drum surface on top loaders.
  • If the smell returns within days of a cleaning cycle, the source is outside the drum.
  • Leaving the door ajar after every wash prevents most recurrence and costs nothing.

A musty washing machine is not a sign you are doing anything wrong. It is a predictable outcome of washing in cold water in a humid climate with a machine that never fully dries. Here are the four causes in the order we actually find them in Singapore homes.

Sureclean at a glance

  • Rated 4.9★ across 1,520 Google reviews

The four causes, in order of frequency

  1. The door gasket fold (front loaders). Standing water plus lint plus detergent equals mould, in a sealed rubber channel that never dries. Peel it back and look.
  2. The outer drum surface. Detergent scum and biofilm on the hidden face of the drum. This is the cause when the smell keeps returning after cleaning cycles.
  3. The drain filter (front loaders). Trapped lint, hair and debris sitting in stagnant water behind the small hatch at the bottom front.
  4. The detergent dispenser. Softener residue is thick and sticky and it sets in the drawer channels, growing mould on top.

Try this first — it may be all you need

Before booking anything, spend twenty minutes: clean out the dispenser drawer, clear the drain filter, wipe inside the gasket fold, then run an empty 60°C wash with a proper machine cleaner. Then leave the door ajar between every wash from now on.

If the smell is gone and stays gone, you have solved it for the cost of a bottle of cleaner. That is a good outcome and we would rather you have it.

When a deep clean is the only fix

Book a service when the smell returns within a few days of that routine, when black flecks appear on laundry, when you can see dark residue in the drum perforations, or when the machine is over three years old and has never been opened.

Those all point to the same thing: residue on surfaces the machine cannot reach by itself.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my washing machine smell even though I clean it?

Because cleaning cycles only reach the inside of the drum. The mould and detergent scum causing the smell sit on the drum’s outer surface and in the housing, which no cycle can scrub. That is why the smell fades for a few washes and returns.

Does leaving the washing machine door open help?

Yes, significantly. It lets the drum and gasket dry between washes, which removes the moisture mould needs. In Singapore’s humidity it is the single most effective preventative habit.

Can a musty machine make my clothes smell?

Yes. Clothes washed in a machine with established biofilm pick up that odour, which is why laundry can come out smelling stale even on a fresh cycle.

Is washing machine mould harmful?

The mould species found in washing machines can aggravate allergies and asthma in sensitive people. For most households it is primarily an odour and laundry-freshness problem, but it is worth dealing with if anyone in the home has respiratory sensitivities.

Standard clean or deep clean — which do you need?

A standard clean covers the drum removal and wash, filter, dispenser and gasket. It suits a machine on a regular maintenance schedule, or one under about three years old.

A deep clean adds extended treatment time, additional sanitiser and more thorough attention to the housing, pump area and hoses. It suits machines that have never been serviced, are over three years old, have a persistent smell, or are being prepared for a new tenant or owner.

If you are not sure, send us a photo of your machine and its age over WhatsApp and we will tell you which one it needs — including telling you if it only needs the standard.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between washing machine cleaning and deep cleaning?

Standard cleaning removes the drum and cleans it along with the filter, dispenser and gasket. Deep cleaning adds longer treatment time, extra sanitiser and fuller attention to the housing, pump and hoses. Deep clean is $200 for top load and $350 for front load.

Do I need to be home during the service?

Someone should be present to let the crew in and to see the test run at the end. The job takes one to three hours and the machine is fully working before we leave.

What do you need from me before the appointment?

Clear access to the machine, a working water point and power socket, and the machine emptied of laundry. Our crew brings everything else including the pressure equipment and sanitiser.

Key takeaways

  • Drum cleaning is a physical service: the drum comes out of the machine.
  • Your machine’s built-in “drum clean” cycle is not the same thing and cannot reach the outer surface.
  • From $188 for top load, $288 for front load. 1–3 hours in your home.

Drum cleaning means removing the drum from your washing machine so both of its surfaces can be cleaned directly. It is frequently confused with the “drum clean” or “tub clean” programme built into modern machines, which is a very different and much more limited thing.

“Drum clean” cycle versus drum cleaning

Most machines made in the last decade have a drum clean programme. It runs an empty tub at high temperature, sometimes with extra soak time. It is useful maintenance and you should use it monthly.

What it cannot do is scrub. It circulates hot water past surfaces that have a hardened layer of detergent scum and biofilm on them. Hot water alone lifts a fraction of that and leaves the rest. This is why the programme works well on a machine that is already clean, and barely helps one that is not.

A physical drum clean removes the drum and directs a high-pressure jet at those surfaces. It is the difference between rinsing a roasting tin and scrubbing it.

Frequently asked questions

Is the drum clean cycle on my machine enough?

For maintenance on an already-clean machine, yes, run it monthly. For a machine with an established smell or visible residue, no. The cycle circulates hot water but cannot scrub the hardened layer on the drum’s outer surface.

How dirty does a drum actually get?

On a three-to-five year old Singapore machine that has never been opened, the outer drum surface typically carries a grey-black film of detergent scum and mould, heavy enough to come away in sheets under pressure washing.

Can drum cleaning fix a noisy machine?

No. Noise usually indicates a worn bearing, a loose counterweight or an object trapped between the drums. Cleaning may remove a trapped object, but mechanical faults need a repair technician, which is a different service.
