🟦 Living Room Deep Cleaning Checklist

Deep cleaning your living room is not a one-and-done exercise. You’ll need to do it on a regular basis, or at least every three months. That way, you can keep your home clean and fresh for guests, and yourself!

Here are the top 8 items to pay attention to when deep cleaning your living room:

You’ll want to use a broom, vacuum, or extension pole and brush attachment to get rid of cobwebs.

>>Sofa cushions

If your sofa cushions have removable covers, remove them and vacuum them underneath. If you don’t have removable covers, use warm soapy water to clean the surface of the cushion. Rinse well and allow it to dry completely before placing back on your sofa.

>>Windowsills and baseboards

Wipe the windowsills and baseboards with a cloth or sponge. If you have a vacuum cleaner, use it to clean the baseboards by running them along the floor as well as along all sides of each wall. It’s important to keep your floors free of dust, pet hair, and other debris so that they don’t get tracked into your home at large.

>>Wall hangings and frames

Dust and wipe down wall hangings. Vacuum dust off the frames. Clean glass ornaments with a microfiber cloth or paper towel dampened with water, vinegar, and dish soap.

>>Area rugs

Vacuum the rug or use a commercial rug cleaner if you have one. If you’ve got pets or children around, wear gloves while working with this cleaner. Scrub stains away, then rinse thoroughly with clear water before hanging outside to dry (if possible) or laying flat on an absorbent surface such as cardboard or towels.

If your lampshades are dirty, you can wash them in the washing machine (gentle cycle). You should be careful to read the tag on your specific lampshade before doing this, as some might not be designed to withstand the washing machine.

>>Fans and vents

To clean your fans and vents, you’ll need a vacuum with a crevice attachment. Use this attachment to clean the dust out of all those little cracks in your fan blades and around the edges of each vent. If you have a hard time getting into these areas, try using a toothbrush as an alternative to your crevice tool.

>>Books and other surfaces

Next, take care of books and other surfaces. Dust the spines of your books, wipe down tabletops with a damp cloth, and clean glass surfaces with a little bit of dish soap. If you have mirrors in your living room (and who doesn’t?), make sure they’re spotless as well!

🟦 Bedroom Deep Cleaning Checklist

Deep cleaning the bedroom is a great way to start the new year. It’s also a good idea to do deep cleaning in your bedroom when you’re planning a move, or if you’ve been sick and are trying to get sick germs out of the room. Here’s what you must clean:

>>Floor and carpets

Vacuum the floor and carpets. Use a vacuum with a long hose to clean under the bed and use a crevice tool to clean the corners and other hard-to-reach areas.

>>Bed linens and pillow

Washing the bed linens is necessary, but it should be done weekly. If you have a particularly large bed, you may want to consider washing them more often than once a week.

Pillows should be washed every two weeks, or at least once in the spring and fall. You can also wash your pillow covers more often because they will get dirty faster than your pillows themselves (if they aren’t already).

>>Blinds, drapes, ceiling fans, and light fixtures

Dust, clean, and vacuum blinds, drapes, ceiling fans, and light fixtures. Even though you may have cleaned the windows, it’s still important to dust the blinds and drapes. If your window coverings are washable (like some types of curtains), now is a good time to wash them so they’re ready for use when you move back in.

Make sure you vacuum all upholstered furniture such as couches and chairs or loveseats that aren’t included in the items above because those can collect a lot of dust over time too.

>>Walls and doors

You can use a microfiber cloth to clean walls, doors, and windows. A sponge or soft cloth will also work well to clean windows.

Use a vacuum cleaner to remove dust and dirt from the mattress. You can spray disinfectant and use a steam cleaner to clean off stains.

>>Nightstand or dresser

Clean the drawers. When deep cleaning, make sure you clean the inside of each drawer and also wipe down the outside of it as well. Clean also the top of your nightstand or dresser. Make sure you get into all of those nooks and crannies because they can get pretty dirty over time!

Wipe around any handles, knobs, or hardware on your furniture piece. You want to make sure these are nice and shiny so that they look good when guests come over to visit! Lastly, shine up your mirror for an extra shiny outcome! It will reflect light in a way that makes everything around it glow, making this area look even cleaner than before!

🟦 Kitchen Area Deep Cleaning Checklist

There are some specific areas that need a deep cleaning if you want to keep them as pristine as possible. Whether it’s your sink strainer or the hood fan filter, deep cleaning these items can make a huge difference in how well your kitchen functions overall. Let’s explore some of those areas now!

>>Sink strainer

The best way to clean this part of your garbage disposal is with a small toothbrush or another cleaning utensil that’s small enough to fit into all of those crevices. You can also use a cotton swab dipped in a solution if you want something more gentle on your hands when handling this part of the garbage disposal system.

>>Cabinet handles

You can spray down the cabinet handles with a cleaning product and then scrub them with a toothbrush if needed. Once you’ve cleaned off all of the grime, rinse it off with warm water until there isn’t any residue left on your cabinets!

>>Drain and garbage disposal

Use a drain snake or plumber’s snake to clear the drain of hair and gunk. Clean the disposal with a cleaning solution, then run hot water for about 10 seconds.

You can deep clean the dishwasher in the same way you’d deep clean any other appliance. There are a few spots that need special attention, however. Here’s what to do, clean out the filters and clean around where water comes into contact with glasses and plates.

>>Hood fan filter

You need to clean the filter on a regular basis so that it will continue to work efficiently.

If you have an older version of a hood fan, chances are that your filter was located underneath the actual hood itself. Newer models often have theirs located outside of the unit itself. If this is not possible with your model, then check online where they can be purchased separately!

>>Microwave and range top

Clean the window on the door, the inside of the door, and inside and outside of the microwave, and include the vents and exhaust fan if you have one.

🟦 Bathroom Deep Cleaning Checklist

The bathroom is one of the most skipped areas of the house when talking about deep cleaning. But you have to deep clean it because it’s one of the areas where bacteria love to live.

>>Faucets, showerheads, and drains

There are three main spots in your bathroom that need deep cleaning: faucets, showerheads, and drains. Faucet handles and knobs should also be cleaned regularly to avoid build-up or discoloration over time. You can do this once every week or two throughout the year.

>>Shower curtain and liner

The liner should be washed once a week, while the curtain should be washed once a month. But don’t use fabric softener and bleach on either item.

>>Bathtub or shower surround

You should be cleaning this part of your bathroom at least once every three months in order to prevent mold from forming as well as keeping it looking shiny and new for years to come!

Clean the toilet bowl, the seat and lid, the tank, the floor around the toilet, and the bathroom walls.

The floor is the most likely area of your bathroom to get dirty, with all the moisture and foot traffic that goes on in there. If it’s looking dingy or stained, you may want to deep clean it. A steam mop is a great option for tile floors since it can really penetrate into their grout lines for a thorough cleaning.
