The area got its name from Orang Seletar, a Malay subgroup indigenous to the area. With a total land area of 10.25km2, Seletar used to be home to the military airfield for the Royal Air Force Station, but today the area now houses the new, S$60 million, 140-hectare Seletar Aerospace Park, to be home to specialized industries in aviation such as aircraft maintenance and repair services to further strengthen Singapore’s position as an aviation hub- with the first few tenants moving in to the area in the third quarter of 2010.

Singapore Technologies Aerospace, Jet Aviation, Airbus Helicopters South-East Asia, and EADS Innovation Works to name a few front runner facilities at Seletar.
