Key takeaways

  • Our housekeeping comes weekly or fortnightly, at rates from $22/hour*. Each visit runs 3–5 hours, and a 3-hour session starts at $72*.
  • The hourly rate already covers ironing, laundry, washing the dishes and changing the bedsheets. None of these costs extra.
  • Hiring a tourist, an overstayer or a helper who belongs to another household is against the law. Under the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act, it can lead to a fine of $5,000 to $30,000, up to 12 months’ jail, or both.
  • Weekly or fortnightly, the hourly rate stays the same. Sign up for a longer commitment and the rate drops.

Short answer: Hiring a part-time maid for ironing and housework in Singapore is only legal when the cleaner is employed by a licensed company. A tourist doesn’t qualify, and neither does a domestic helper who works for another family. Sureclean offers weekly and fortnightly housekeeping as low as $22/hour*. Most sessions last 3–5 hours, and a 3-hour session starts from $72*. Every session includes ironing, laundry, washing up and changing the bedsheets. If you hire someone who has no valid work pass, you commit an offence under the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act.

What does a part-time maid do for ironing and general housework?

Here in Singapore, a ‘part-time maid’ is usually not a live-in helper. It’s a cleaner who comes in for a fixed block of hours, weekly or fortnightly. If you book one for ironing and general housework, the session clears what has built up over the week. The laundry gets washed, hung out, ironed and folded. Bedsheets are changed and dishes washed. Kitchen tops and appliance surfaces are wiped down, bathrooms cleaned, and the whole place dusted, vacuumed and mopped.

This is Sureclean’s weekly home cleaning service. The hourly rate covers laundry, ironing, washing the dishes and changing the bedsheets. None of these cost extra. On the day, you tell the cleaner what comes first. If the ironing pile matters most, they start with that.

A regular session is not designed for:

  • For big one-time jobs, like clearing post-renovation dust or a thorough spring clean.
  • Deep cleaning for mattresses, sofas or curtains. It needs its own equipment, so it is booked as a separate service.
  • Exterior window cleaning on high-rise blocks, which we do not offer.

Yes, provided the person cleaning your home has the legal right to work for you. Hiring a company that employs its own cleaners is the easiest way to be sure, because that company takes responsibility for their work passes. The trouble usually starts with informal arrangements. They can seem cheap and convenient at first, and that is exactly where the risk sits.

Important legal warning. The Employment of Foreign Manpower Act makes it an offence to hire a foreigner who does not hold a valid work pass. A tourist, an overstayer or another household’s domestic helper all fall into this group. Anyone who employs such a person can be fined $5,000 to $30,000, jailed for up to 12 months, or both. They can also be barred from hiring foreign workers.

A helper on a Work Permit can work only for her own employer, and only at the address stated on that permit. Part-time or weekend jobs for other households are therefore against the law. If she is caught, her employer can be fined up to $10,000 and barred from hiring helpers. The helper can lose her Work Permit, be sent home and be banned from working in Singapore.

How much does a part-time maid for ironing and housework cost in Singapore?

Housekeeping with Sureclean on a weekly or fortnightly schedule starts from $22/hour*. Most visits last 3–5 hours. A 3-hour session starts at $72*. You pay the same hourly rate whether we come every week or every fortnight. Sign up for a longer commitment and the rate drops. On your first booking with us, you’ll get 10% off.

Points to check when you compare quotes:

  • Ironing is included. There is no separate per-piece ironing charge.
  • Laundry, dishes and bedsheet changes are included within the same hours.
  • Our prices are before GST. When you line up quotes from other companies, see whether theirs already include it.
  • Be wary of an unusually low hourly rate. Ask who actually employs the cleaner. Then confirm that they have a valid work pass. If anything goes wrong, the employer is the one who faces the penalties set out above.

How do you keep ironing and laundry under control in Singapore’s humidity?

In Singapore’s humid air, laundry needs different handling. Clothes left to dry slowly indoors often pick up a musty smell. Put damp fabric away in a wardrobe and mould soon follows. A part-time cleaner is most useful when the routine around each visit is planned with this in mind.

  • Get the washing going first. Put a load in the machine as soon as the cleaner arrives, so it is ready to hang out to dry before they go.
  • Use the drying space you have. In most HDB flats, laundry goes out to the service yard or onto the window pole holders. Condos are different. Many limit what you can hang on a balcony, so read your house rules first.
  • Iron only fully dry clothes. Ironing slightly damp items and storing them straight away traps moisture.
  • Keep wardrobes ventilated. Leave gaps between hangers and open the doors now and then. A dehumidifier helps in closed rooms.
  • Decide the ironing order. Linen, school uniforms and office shirts take up the most time. Tell your cleaner which pieces to do first.

Booking mostly for the weekly laundry? Tell us when you book, so we can plan a session long enough for the load.

How many hours do you need for an HDB flat, condo or landed home?

Most housekeeping sessions take 3–5 hours. Your flat type matters less than you might expect. What decides it is the list of tasks you give the cleaner.

  • Smaller HDB and BTO flats can often be done in a 3-hour session from $72*, provided there are one or two bathrooms and only light ironing.
  • Larger HDB flats and condos generally take 4 hours or more, especially with a full week’s laundry, ironing for several people and extra bathrooms.
  • Landed homes are a different job. Several storeys, extra bathrooms and outdoor spaces push the work towards the 5-hour end, so some owners split the tasks over more than one visit.

Most of the time, it comes down to ironing. Pressing a basket of office shirts takes much longer than doing tea towels and pillowcases. Other things add time too: pets, young children, and how much clutter has to be moved before the surfaces can be wiped down.

Start with a longer first session. See how much the crew gets through, then tweak the hours from there. Weekly and fortnightly visits are charged at the same hourly rate, as low as $22/hour*. If you switch frequency later, your hourly rate stays where it was.

What should you check before you book a part-time maid? (Checklist)

Use this checklist before the first visit, whoever you book.

  • 1. Confirm who employs the cleaner. Ask who the cleaner actually works for. When a company hires its own crews, it is responsible for their work passes. Don’t hire tourists, overstayers or helpers employed by other families.
  • 2. Check the licence and insurance. Sureclean is NEA-licensed (NEA240120/6509C/C3/N01) and carries S$1,000,000 public liability insurance.
  • 3. Settle the task list together. Put your priorities in writing, in order: ironing, laundry, bedsheets, dishes, bathrooms, floors.
  • 4. Agree the hours and frequency. Choose between weekly and fortnightly visits, then settle how many hours each session should run.
  • 5. Find out what the package leaves out. Deep cleaning for a mattress or sofa, for instance, is usually quoted as a separate service.
  • 6. Sort out the supplies. Our cleaners come with their own equipment. Some fabrics may need your own iron, detergent or products, so please tell us.
  • 7. Plan access. Decide who lets the cleaner in and whether anyone will be home.
  • 8. Get the price in writing before the first visit. Make sure GST is listed as its own line, so the final bill holds no surprises.

When should you call a professional cleaning company?

Some households want steady help at home but have no wish to become an employer or take on the legal risk set out above. For them, a professional company is the sensible route. Sureclean’s weekly home cleaning is worth considering when:

  • Ironing and laundry are eating into your evenings or weekends.
  • Every visit should meet one standard, carried out by cleaners who all trained with the same company.
  • If you’d rather your employer took care of work passes, you need an arrangement that is fully legal.
  • You want a licensed, insured provider. We are NEA-licensed and carry S$1,000,000 public liability insurance.

Our cleaners are trained, employed crews of our own. We don’t send agency staff or freelancers booked through a marketplace. Sureclean started in 2013, and since then we have cleaned more than 50,000 homes. On Google, customers have given us a 4.9-star rating across 1,500+ reviews. Each crew brings its own equipment. If we miss a spot, let us know and we’ll come back to clean it again.

Handing back a rental flat is usually a bigger one-off job. Our move-in and move-out cleaning starts from $370*. To book or ask a question, WhatsApp +65 6983 9523.

When you do not need a professional

A regular cleaner may not pay for itself in every household. Say you live in a small flat, you stay on top of the laundry and ironing, and you only want an extra pair of hands once in a while. In that case, iron a few pieces each evening, use a decent steam iron and keep a sensible drying routine, and that may be all you need. The same goes for homes with their own domestic helper. If she already handles the housework at the address on her Work Permit, the daily chores are covered. Save a one-off clean for when a backlog piles up.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a part-time maid for ironing cost in Singapore?

Housekeeping with Sureclean starts at $22/hour*, before GST. Most sessions run 3–5 hours. A 3-hour session starts from $72*. The hourly rate also covers ironing, along with laundry, washing the dishes and changing the bedsheets, so you won’t pay extra for each piece you need ironed. New customers get 10% off their first booking. Before our first visit, we’ll confirm the final price with you.

Can I pay another family’s domestic helper to do my ironing on her day off?

No. Her Work Permit lets a migrant domestic worker work only for her own employer, and only at the address stated on it. If you hire her for your home, the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act allows a fine of $5,000 to $30,000. Her employer can be fined up to $10,000, and her Work Permit may be revoked. There is a legal option. Sureclean’s weekly home cleaning starts from as low as $22/hour*, and ironing is included.

Does a part-time maid do laundry and change bedsheets?

Yes. Laundry, ironing, washing the dishes and changing the bedsheets all come with Sureclean’s weekly and fortnightly housekeeping. Our crew also does the general cleaning: bathrooms, kitchen surfaces and floors. When you book, tell us what matters most to you. Most sessions last 3–5 hours. Prices start from $72* for 3 hours, which works out to as low as $22/hour*.

Is weekly or fortnightly cleaning cheaper per hour?

Neither. We charge weekly and fortnightly visits at the same hourly rate, as low as $22/hour*. A fortnightly plan works out cheaper over the month simply because we come less often. The trade-off is that each visit may run longer, since there’s more laundry and ironing waiting. Longer commitments bring the rate down. Once you’ve settled on the schedule that fits your home, check with our team.

What is not included in a regular housekeeping session?

Regular sessions cover general housework, ironing and laundry. Specialist work falls outside that scope. Mattress, sofa and curtain deep cleaning are booked as separate services, and we do not clean the outside of high-rise windows. If the housework has piled up badly, a one-off spring clean from $600* is the better place to start. Move-out cleaning starts from $370*.
