Key takeaways

  • Professional floor cleaning scrubs the floor surface and the grout lines, then rinses away the loosened residue. Mopping only moves surface dust around.
  • Tile and vinyl need different methods. Marble needs pH-neutral products, and restoring its shine is a separate polishing job.
  • Sureclean’s deep floor cleaning is a separate add-on for HDB flats, from $360* for a 2-room flat to $900* for a Jumbo flat. It is never included in post-renovation or spring cleaning prices.
  • Scrubbing fixes a floor that looks dirty. Polishing fixes stone that is clean but dull. Most HDB and condo floors need scrubbing.

Short answer: Professional floor cleaning services in Singapore scrub dirt, cement haze and stains out of tile surfaces and grout lines. They also lift ground-in grime from vinyl without flooding the joints between planks. Marble needs pH-neutral products, and bringing back its shine is a separate polishing job. At Sureclean, deep floor cleaning is an add-on priced by flat type, from $360* for a 2-room HDB flat to $850* for an Executive Maisonette. It is never bundled into post-renovation or spring cleaning prices.

What does professional floor cleaning cover in Singapore?

Everyday mopping moves surface dust around. Professional floor cleaning goes further. It scrubs the floor surface, works into the grout lines and corners, and rinses away the loosened residue so it does not dry back onto the floor. In Singapore homes the usual targets are grey grout in kitchens and bathrooms, cement and paint specks after renovation, a sticky film from years of mopping with too much detergent, and dark edges along the skirting. Singapore’s humidity also means floors dry slowly and grout stays damp for longer, so mould and dark lines appear sooner than many owners expect.

A typical professional job covers:

  • Floor surface: scrubbing tile, vinyl or stone with products suited to that material.
  • Grout lines: brushing out embedded dirt and discolouration.
  • Edges and corners: detail work in places a mop does not reach.
  • Rinse and dry: removing residue so the floor is not left slippery or tacky.

Sureclean offers this as floor deep cleaning. It is a separate add-on to our other home cleaning services.

How are tile floors and grout cleaned?

Ceramic and homogeneous tiles are the most common floors in HDB flats and many condos. The tile face is fairly hard-wearing, so the grout between the tiles is usually what looks dirty. Grout is porous. It absorbs mop water, cooking oil and soap residue, and in a humid climate it stays damp long enough for mould spots to form, especially in bathrooms and along kitchen walls.

Professional grout cleaning involves:

  • Applying a cleaning solution and leaving it long enough to loosen embedded dirt.
  • Scrubbing the grout lines with stiff brushes instead of a mop.
  • Scrubbing the tile surface to remove film and haze.
  • Rinsing and picking up the dirty water so it does not settle back into the grout.

Matt and textured tiles hold more dirt than glossy tiles, so they usually show the biggest difference after cleaning. Cracked or missing grout needs a repair, not a clean. Cleaning makes those gaps easier to see, so it is worth checking for them before you book.

What is different about cleaning vinyl floors?

Vinyl planks, including SPC and LVT, are now common in BTO flats and resale renovations because they can be laid quickly over existing tiles. The surface resists water, but the joints between the planks are the weak point. If a vinyl floor is flooded or left wet, water can seep into the joints and under the planks.

Good vinyl cleaning therefore uses a controlled amount of water:

  • Dust and grit are removed dry first, because grit scratches the wear layer.
  • The floor is scrubbed with soft pads or brushes. Abrasive pads are never used because they dull the surface.
  • A mild solution is used that does not leave a sticky film.
  • Water is picked up straight away instead of being left to evaporate.

The usual complaint with vinyl is not grout. It is a dull, tacky surface caused by too much floor cleaner over time, plus dark marks along the walkways. Scrubbing removes that build-up. Sureclean’s deep floor add-on covers vinyl as well as tile and grout.

How should marble floors be cleaned?

Marble is found mostly in older condos, landed homes and some resale flats. It is a calcium-based stone, so acidic products will etch it. These include vinegar, many bathroom cleaners and some all-purpose sprays. Etching leaves dull patches that no amount of mopping will fix. Marble is also more porous than tile, so spills such as coffee, oil and curry can stain if they are left.

Safe cleaning for marble means:

  • Using pH-neutral products only, with no acids or harsh alkalis.
  • Using soft pads, because grit and stiff abrasives scratch the polished face.
  • Wiping up spills quickly, particularly oil and acidic food.
  • Drying the floor so water marks do not form.

Cleaning removes dirt from marble, but it does not bring back lost shine. Etching, scratches and a cloudy, worn finish are fixed by honing and polishing, which is specialist stone restoration work. If your home has marble, mention it when you ask Sureclean for a quote. Condo and landed floors are quoted on request, so the crew can confirm the right approach before the job.

Floor scrubbing vs floor polishing: which do you need?

People often use the two terms loosely, but they solve different problems.

  • Scrubbing removes what is sitting on or in the floor: dirt, grout discolouration, cement haze, paint specks and detergent film. It does not change the floor’s own surface. It suits tile, grout and vinyl, and it is what most HDB and condo owners need.
  • Polishing changes the surface itself. On marble and other natural stone, polishing works the stone to bring back a reflective finish after etching or wear. It is slower and more specialised, and it is only relevant to stone and some polished concrete.

Here is a simple test. If the floor looks dirty, stained or grey in the grout, it needs scrubbing. If it is clean but dull, scratched or patchy on stone, it needs polishing. Polishing a dirty floor seals the dirt in, so scrubbing always comes first.

How much does floor cleaning cost in Singapore?

For HDB flats, Sureclean charges a fixed price for deep floor cleaning based on flat type. It runs from $360* for a 2-room flat to $900* for a Jumbo flat, and the full price list is in the table below. 3-Gen flats, condos and landed homes are quoted on request because floor areas and materials vary more.

The add-on is never included in other cleaning prices. Post-renovation and spring cleaning prices do not include tile, grout or vinyl scrubbing. If you want both, the package price is the two prices added together:

Booking both together makes most sense after a renovation, when cement haze and grout residue are at their worst. You can also add floor cleaning to a move-in or move-out clean (from $370*) or a spring clean (from $600*). All prices are before GST, and first-time customers get a 10% discount.

How do you prepare your home for professional floor cleaning?

A little preparation makes the job faster and the result more even. Go through this checklist before the crew arrives:

  • Clear the floor: move small furniture, rugs, shoes, toys and cables off the floor, or tell the crew which items stay.
  • Tell us the floor type: say whether it is tile, vinyl or marble, and whether different rooms use different materials.
  • Point out problem areas: stained grout, sticky patches, paint specks or cement haze.
  • Flag damage early: point out cracked tiles, lifting vinyl planks or missing grout, so everyone knows what cleaning can and cannot fix.
  • Check water and power: crews bring their own equipment but need access to a tap and power points.
  • Allow drying time: keep people off the floor until it is dry, and open windows or switch on fans to help in humid weather.
  • Walk the floor afterwards: check grout lines and corners before the crew leaves, and raise anything they missed straight away.

When should you call a professional floor cleaner?

Regular mopping is enough for most of the year. A professional deep floor clean is worth it when the floor has problems that mopping cannot fix:

  • After renovation, when cement haze, tile adhesive and paint specks are left on the tiles and in the grout.
  • Before moving in, especially into a resale flat where the grout has darkened over the years.
  • When kitchen and bathroom grout has turned grey or shows mould spots.
  • When vinyl feels sticky or looks dull even straight after mopping.
  • Before handing back a rental unit, when the floors are part of the inspection.

Sureclean’s floor deep cleaning is done by our own trained crews, not agency or marketplace cleaners, and they bring their own equipment. We are NEA-licensed, carry S$1,000,000 in public liability insurance and have a 4.9-star Google rating across 1,500+ reviews. If you are not satisfied with an area, we return to re-clean it. If your floor is only dusty or has light everyday marks, a well-wrung mop and a little mild cleaner is enough. Regular housekeeping keeps floors in order between deep cleans. See weekly home cleaning, from $22/hour*. You can often deal with an isolated grout stain yourself using a stiff brush and some patience. If your marble is clean but dull, scrubbing will not help. That needs a stone polishing specialist.
