Key takeaways
- A 15-minute weekly routine that ends with a squeegee and a running exhaust fan prevents most limescale and mould in Singapore bathrooms.
- Acidic cleaners such as diluted vinegar remove limescale from ceramic, glass and chrome, but never use them on natural stone or mix them with bleach.
- Grey grout can usually be cleaned. Mould that has grown into silicone, or cracked grout, needs resealing or regrouting rather than more scrubbing.
- When the weekly routine no longer brings the bathroom back to clean, a professional spring clean from $600* resets it.
Short answer: For bathroom cleaning in Singapore, a 15-minute weekly routine prevents most limescale and mould: clean the WC, scrub the shower and grout, wipe the basin, clear the floor trap, then squeegee and run the fan. Use acidic cleaners on scale, but never on natural stone, and never mix them with bleach. If the grout is grey across the whole floor or the mould keeps coming back, a professional spring clean (from $600*) resets the room.

Why do Singapore bathrooms get dirty so quickly?
In Singapore, bathrooms stay damp for most of the day. Warm, humid air and daily showers mean surfaces rarely dry out fully, and many HDB and BTO bathrooms have only a small window or none at all. That combination causes three problems:
- Soap scum and mineral spots on glass, tiles and taps.
- Black or pink mould in silicone sealant and grout lines.
- Odours from floor traps and drains.
Most of this can be prevented with 10 to 15 minutes of work a week. The routine below is designed for the typical Singapore bathroom: a tiled floor with a floor trap, a shower area with a screen or curtain, a basin, a WC and an exhaust fan or small window.
Sometimes the build-up has gone beyond what a weekly wipe can handle, such as grey grout across the whole floor or stubborn mould in the corners. Then a one-time professional spring cleaning resets the room, and the weekly routine keeps it that way.
What does a simple weekly bathroom routine look like?
Do this once a week, ideally right after a shower, while the steam has softened the grime. Work from top to bottom and from clean areas to dirty ones, so you never drip dirt onto a surface you have just finished.
- Ventilate first. Switch on the exhaust fan or open the window.
- Clear and dust. Take the bottles off the ledges, then wipe the shelves, the top of the mirror and the exhaust grille.
- Spray the shower area. Apply a bathroom cleaner to the screen, walls and taps and leave it for five minutes.
- Clean the WC. Brush the bowl with toilet cleaner. Then use a separate cloth to wipe the seat, lid, hinges, base and flush button.
- Scrub and rinse the shower. Use a non-scratch sponge on glass and a stiff brush on grout lines, then rinse.
- Basin and mirror. Wipe the basin, taps and mirror, then buff them dry with microfibre.
- Floor and floor trap. Lift the trap cover, remove the hair, scrub the trap and flush it with water.
- Squeegee and dry. Squeegee the glass and tiles, then leave the fan running for 20 to 30 minutes.
Keep one colour of cloth for the WC only, so it never touches the basin.
How do you remove limescale and soap scum safely?
The white crust on shower screens, taps and shower heads is a mix of minerals left behind when water evaporates and soap residue. It is easiest to remove while it is still thin, which is why the weekly squeegee matters so much.
For light build-up on ceramic tiles, glass and chrome:
- Apply a mild acidic cleaner, such as diluted white vinegar or a bathroom descaler. Leave it for a few minutes before wiping.
- For shower heads, soak a cloth in the solution and wrap it around the nozzles. Then remove the cloth, rinse and run the water.
- Rinse and dry thoroughly afterwards. Acid left on chrome can dull the finish over time.
Two important cautions. First, never use vinegar or acidic descalers on marble, limestone or other natural stone, which many condo bathrooms have. Acid etches stone permanently, so use a pH-neutral stone cleaner instead. Second, never mix acidic products with bleach, because the combination releases toxic chlorine gas. If you need both, use one, rinse completely, and use the other on a different day.
Thick scale on glass that has built up over years may need several treatments or professional tools.
How do you deal with mould and dirty grout?
Mould grows wherever water sits. The usual spots are the silicone around the shower tray and basin, grout lines near the floor, ceiling corners above the shower and the underside of shower curtains. Grout is porous, so dirt and soap soak in and the lines slowly turn grey or black.
- Surface mould on tiles and grout: spray a mould remover or diluted bleach (follow the label) and leave it for the stated time with the fan on. Scrub with a grout brush and rinse well. Wear gloves.
- Ceiling spots: don’t spray overhead. Wipe them with a cloth dampened in the same solution and protect your eyes.
- Grey grout without mould: scrub with a paste of baking soda and water and a stiff brush to lift everyday grime.
- Black marks inside silicone: if the mould has grown into the sealant, cleaning will only lighten it. Replacing the silicone is the lasting fix.
Prevention matters more than scrubbing. Keep the fan running after showers, squeegee the walls, and hang towels and bath mats to dry outside the bathroom. If the grout looks dirty across the whole floor, a machine scrub usually achieves more than hours of hand brushing. Sureclean offers this as a separate deep floor cleaning add-on.
Are HDB, condo and landed bathrooms cleaned differently?
The basics are the same, but each type of home has its own weak spots.
- HDB and BTO flats: the floor trap and the area around the base of the WC collect the most grime. Many of these bathrooms have only a small window or an exhaust fan, so they take longer to dry. Newer BTO flats often have a shower screen, and it builds up scale quickly if nobody squeegees it.
- Condominiums: frameless glass enclosures, rain showers, wall-hung WCs and natural stone are common. Use pH-neutral products on stone, and check the shower head and the concealed cistern’s flush plate once a month.
- Landed homes: there are more bathrooms, and some are rarely used. Flush the WC and run each tap in a guest bathroom every week or two, so the traps don’t dry out and smell.
Whatever the home type, keep floor traps clear and don’t leave water standing in pails or containers. NEA’s dengue prevention guidance asks households to remove stagnant water, and a rarely used bathroom is an easy place for it to collect.
If you are renting, landlords usually inspect bathrooms closely at handover. Our move-in / move-out cleaning (from $370*) covers them in detail.
How much does bathroom cleaning cost in Singapore?
Sureclean doesn’t sell bathroom-only visits, so bathrooms are priced as part of a wider clean. These are our published starting prices, all before GST:
- Weekly or fortnightly home cleaning: as low as $22/hour*. Sessions typically run 3 to 5 hours (from $72* per 3-hour session), and bathrooms are part of every session.
- Spring cleaning / deep cleaning (one-time): from $600*, with most jobs between $700–$800*. This is the service for heavy scale, mould and neglected corners across the whole home.
- Deep floor cleaning add-on (a machine scrub of tile and grout floors across the flat): 3-room $500*, 4-room $560*, 5-room $600*. It is always priced separately and is never included in other packages.
- Disinfection: from $265* per session, for households that want a sanitising treatment, for example after an illness.
The final price depends on the size of the home, the number of bathrooms and how much build-up there is. First-time customers get a 10% discount. You can see the full list on our cleaning prices page.
When is a professional bathroom deep clean worth it?
A professional deep clean makes sense when the weekly routine no longer brings the bathroom back to clean. Typical signs:
- The grout is grey or black across the whole floor, not just in one corner.
- The shower screen stays cloudy after cleaning.
- Mould returns to the ceiling or wall corners within days.
- You are moving in or out, or the bathroom hasn’t had a thorough clean in months.
- Nobody in the household has the time or mobility to scrub on their knees.
Sureclean’s spring cleaning service covers bathrooms in detail, along with the kitchen, bedrooms and living areas. The work is done by our own trained crews, not agency or marketplace cleaners, and they bring their own equipment. We are NEA-licensed, carry S$1,000,000 public liability insurance and have a 4.9-star Google rating across more than 1,500 reviews since we started in 2013. If something is missed, we return to re-clean it.
After a deep clean, a 15-minute weekly routine is usually enough to keep the bathroom that way. If you would rather hand that over too, our weekly home cleaning includes bathrooms in every session.

When you do not need a professional
If your bathroom only needs its normal weekly wipe-down, you don’t need to pay anyone. Light soap scum, a few mould spots on silicone and a smelly floor trap can all be handled in under an hour with the steps above and basic supplies. Mould that has grown deep into silicone needs resealing, not cleaning, and cracked or missing grout needs a tiling contractor. A cleaning crew is not the right fix for either.

Frequently asked questions
How often should a bathroom be cleaned in Singapore?
A light clean once a week is enough for most households, plus a quick squeegee and a run of the fan after every shower. Singapore’s humidity encourages mould, so a thorough deep clean every few months also helps. If you would rather hand over the weekly part, Sureclean’s weekly home cleaning starts as low as $22/hour*, and bathrooms are covered in every session.
How much does a bathroom deep clean cost in Singapore?
Sureclean doesn’t price bathrooms on their own. They are included in a whole-home spring cleaning, which starts from $600* before GST, with most jobs between $700–$800*. The final price depends on the size of the home, the number of bathrooms and how much scale and mould has built up. First-time customers get a 10% discount.
Can blackened grout be cleaned, or does it need replacing?
Most grey or black grout can be cleaned if it is intact. A machine scrub lifts far more than hand brushing, and Sureclean offers this as a separate deep floor cleaning add-on, for example $560* for a 4-room HDB flat. If the grout is cracked, crumbling or missing, cleaning won’t fix it, and a tiling contractor should regrout the area.
Is vinegar safe for removing limescale in the bathroom?
Diluted vinegar works on ceramic tiles, glass and chrome. Never use it on marble, limestone or other natural stone, because acid etches the surface, and never mix it with bleach. For thick scale on glass screens and taps, Sureclean’s spring cleaning (from $600*) uses professional tools and products suited to each surface.
Do weekly cleaners clean the bathroom?
Yes. Bathrooms are part of every Sureclean weekly or fortnightly session, along with dishes, laundry, ironing and bedsheet changes. Sessions typically run 3 to 5 hours, at as low as $22/hour*, or from $72* for a 3-hour session. Heavy limescale or mould is better tackled first with a one-time spring cleaning and then kept down with weekly sessions.
