Top loaders hide build-up on the outer drum wall and under the pulsator plate.
They use more water than front loaders, so odour develops more slowly — but build-up is heavier when it comes.
From $188, typically 1–2 hours, done in your home.
Top load washing machines are the most common type in Singapore HDB flats. They are simpler than front loaders and tend to smell less, but when they do build up residue it is usually heavier, because the larger water volume carries more dissolved detergent to deposit.

Where a top loader actually gets dirty
The inner tub of a top loader looks clean because you see it from above and it drains dry. The build-up is in two places you never see: the outer wall of the inner tub, and the inside of the outer tub that surrounds it.
On machines we open that are three to five years old and have never been serviced, the outer tub wall typically carries a heavy grey scale of detergent scum, often with visible black mould spotting. It comes off in sheets under a high-pressure jet.
Under the pulsator plate
Top loaders have a pulsator — the finned plate at the bottom of the drum that agitates the water. It unscrews, and the cavity underneath is a collection point for lint, hair, detergent sludge and the occasional coin.
This cavity is completely sealed from view during normal use and is never reached by any wash cycle. It is one of the more unpleasant parts of the job and one of the most satisfying to clean out.
Our 4-step on-site method
Every job below is carried out by our own crew as part of Sureclean’s washing machine cleaning service, on site at your home in Singapore. The method is the same whichever machine type you have — only the time on site changes.
1. Dismantle on site
The outer casing comes off and the inner drum is lifted out — in your bathroom or service yard. Nothing is taken away to a workshop.
2. High-pressure deep clean
The hidden outer surface of the drum, the housing, filter, rubber gasket and detergent dispenser are washed down with a high-pressure jet. This is the surface a wash cycle can never reach.
3. Sanitise
The full drum assembly is treated with sanitiser, then rinsed.
4. Reassemble and test-run
The machine is rebuilt and put through a full test cycle before our crew leaves, so you see it working.
What we actually find inside Singapore machines
On a typical three-to-five year old HDB machine that has never been opened, the outer drum surface carries a grey-black film of detergent scum mixed with mould. It is not visible from the door — you only see it once the drum is lifted out. In humid Singapore flats where the machine sits in an enclosed service yard or bathroom, this builds faster than in drier climates because the drum rarely dries out fully between washes.
Front loaders additionally trap residue in the rubber door gasket fold, which is where most musty smells originate. Top loaders tend to collect scum on the outer drum wall and under the pulsator plate.

When you do not need us
If your machine is under a year old, has no smell and leaves no marks on clothing, a monthly hot maintenance wash with a proper machine cleaner is genuinely enough. Deep cleaning is worth paying for when the smell keeps returning after cleaning cycles, when black flecks appear on laundry, or when the machine has never been opened up. We would rather tell you that than sell you a job you do not need.
Book a top loader deep clean
Pulsator lifted, outer drum wall cleaned — from $188 in your home.
Do top load washing machines need cleaning as often as front loaders?
Slightly less often for odour, because the larger water volume dilutes residue and there is no door gasket to trap water. But build-up on the outer drum wall is usually heavier when it does occur. Every 12 to 18 months is a sensible interval in Singapore.
What is the pulsator and why does it matter?
It is the finned plate at the bottom of the drum that moves the water. It unscrews to reveal a cavity underneath that collects lint, hair and detergent sludge. No wash cycle reaches it, so it can only be cleaned by removing the plate.
How much does top load cleaning cost?
From $188 for a standard clean and $200 for a deep clean, taking one to two hours in your home.
Front loaders smell more than top loaders because the door seal traps standing water.
The rubber gasket fold is the single most common source of musty odour.
A full clean covers gasket, inner and outer drum, filter, dispenser and pump housing.
From $288, typically 2–3 hours, done in your home.
Front load washing machines wash better and use less water than top loaders, but they smell more — and the reason is structural rather than a fault. This page explains why, and what a proper front loader deep clean covers.

Why front loaders develop odour faster
A front loader seals against a rubber door gasket to hold water in a horizontal drum. That seal is excellent at its job and, as a side effect, it holds a small amount of water in its fold after every wash.
That trapped water sits in a warm, dark, enclosed rubber channel. In Singapore’s humidity it does not evaporate between washes. Add detergent residue and lint, and the fold becomes the most reliable mould habitat in the machine.
Front loaders also use much less water per cycle than top loaders. Less water means less dilution, so detergent residue concentrates more heavily on the drum surfaces.
The gasket fold — check yours now
Open your machine door and peel back the rubber seal with your fingers. Look and smell inside the fold. On most machines older than two years that have never been deep cleaned, you will find dark slime, lint, and sometimes standing water.
This is worth doing before you call anyone. If the fold is merely damp with a little lint, wipe it out weekly and leave the door ajar — you may not need a service at all. If it is black, slimy, or the discolouration extends under the seal where you cannot wipe, that is beyond DIY.
What a front loader clean covers
Door gasket — cleaned in and under the fold, including the drain slots
Inner and outer drum — dismantled and high-pressure washed
Drain pump filter — removed, cleared and rinsed
Detergent dispenser — drawer and the channels behind it
Pump housing and visible hoses — checked and cleared
Sanitising and test run — full cycle before we leave

Gasket, drum, filter and dispenser — from $288, done in your home.
Almost always the door gasket. The rubber seal holds a small amount of water in its fold after each wash, and in Singapore’s humidity that never fully dries. Combined with detergent residue it becomes mould. Secondary sources are the drain filter and the outer drum surface.
Should I leave my front loader door open?
Yes. Leaving the door ajar between washes is the single most effective habit for preventing odour, because it lets the drum and gasket dry. It costs nothing and prevents most recurrence after a deep clean.
How often should a front loader be deep cleaned?
Every 12 to 18 months in Singapore conditions, with weekly gasket wiping and a monthly hot maintenance wash in between.
Is front loader cleaning more expensive than top load?
Yes, $288 versus $188 standard. A front loader takes longer to dismantle and has more components to clean, including the gasket and pump filter.
The tub (drum) has two surfaces — the inner one you can see, and an outer one you cannot.
Tub cleaning means physically removing the tub to clean the outer surface and the housing behind it.
A drum-clean cycle or cleaning tablet cannot reach the outer tub surface at all.
From $188 for a top loader, $288 for a front loader. Done in your home in 1–3 hours.
Washing machine tub cleaning means taking the tub out of the machine and cleaning the surfaces that a wash cycle never reaches. It is different from running a cleaning tablet through the machine, and it is the only method that removes established mould and detergent scum rather than diluting it.

Inner tub and outer tub — the distinction that matters
Your machine has a perforated inner tub that holds your clothes, and a solid outer tub that holds the water. They sit inside one another with a narrow gap between.
Everything you can see and wipe is the inner tub. Everything that causes persistent smells is in the gap: the outer face of the inner tub, and the inner wall of the outer tub. Water passes through that gap on every wash but never scrubs it, so residue accumulates in layers over years.
When we lift the tub out, that outer face is typically coated in a grey-black film. Most customers ask to photograph it, because it is nothing like what they expected from a machine that looked clean.
Signs your tub needs cleaning
A musty or sour smell when you open the door, especially after the machine has sat unused
Black or grey flecks appearing on clean laundry, particularly on light fabrics
Clothes that come out smelling stale rather than fresh
Visible dark residue in the perforations of the inner tub
The smell returns within days of running a cleaning cycle
That last one is the clearest signal. If a cleaning cycle helps briefly and then the smell comes back, the source is outside the tub and no cycle will fix it.

Book a tub deep clean
We dismantle, clean the hidden surfaces, sanitise, reassemble and test-run — all in your home.
What is the difference between tub cleaning and a drum clean cycle?
A drum clean cycle is a hot wash the machine runs by itself; it rinses the inner tub surface only. Tub cleaning is a physical service where the tub is removed from the machine so the hidden outer surface and the housing can be washed directly. Only the second removes established build-up.
Do you take my machine away?
No. The entire job is done in your home, usually in the bathroom or service yard. The machine is dismantled, cleaned, reassembled and test-run before we leave.
How long does tub cleaning take?
One to two hours for a top loader and two to three hours for a front loader or washer-dryer combo.
Will dismantling damage my machine or void the warranty?
Our technicians dismantle and reassemble to the manufacturer’s sequence and test-run the machine before leaving. If your machine is still under manufacturer warranty, check your warranty terms first, as some brands require authorised servicing.

The real difference: what each model makes you responsible for
Agency vs marketplace
An agency employs the cleaner, trains them to a fixed standard, insures the work under its own policy and assigns a supervisor — one company is accountable and the same crew returns. An app or marketplace matches you to an individual: faster to start, often cheaper for a one-off, but continuity depends on that person and accountability sits closer to you.
Neither is universally better. It decides who fixes it when something goes wrong.
When Nanotech is the better choice
Choose Nanotech if you want cleaning and pest control from a single vendor. That is a genuine fit, and no single provider is right for every job in Singapore.

Compare like for like — an hourly marketplace rate and a supervised per-job quote are different products.
What should I check before hiring Nanotech or Sureclean?
Apply the same five checks to both companies before you decide: a valid NEA cleaning-business licence (ask each for the number), public liability insurance, whether the cleaner is employed on an MOM work permit or engaged as a freelancer, documented training, and review depth rather than review score.

Sureclean Pte Ltd (UEN 201316509C) has cleaned Singapore homes and offices since 2013, from 10 Bukit Batok Crescent, #11-07 The Spire, Singapore 658079. It employs its own crews rather than matching you to freelancers, holds NEA Class 3 licence NEA240120/6509C/C3/N01 and S$1 million public liability insurance, and has cleaned more than 50,000 homes. Rated 4.9 stars from 1,520 Google reviews.
When AO ServicePro is the better choice
Choose AO ServicePro if you run an industrial site, shopping mall, or need facade and work-at-height cleaning. That is a genuine fit, and no single provider is right for every job in Singapore.
Is AO ServicePro or Sureclean better for cleaning in Singapore?
It depends what you are buying. AO ServicePro focuses on commercial, industrial and healthcare facilities. Sureclean employs its own crews, publishes NEA Class 3 licence NEA240120/6509C/C3/N01, carries S$1 million public liability insurance and publishes rates from $22 per hour for recurring cleaning. If you run an industrial site, shopping mall, or need facade and work-at-height cleaning, AO ServicePro may suit you better.

Does AO ServicePro publish its NEA licence and insurance?
As of August 2026: NEA licence — not published on site; insurance — not published on site. Sureclean publishes both. Not publishing a credential does not mean a company lacks it — ask any provider for the licence number before you book.

Sureclean publishes recurring home cleaning from $22/hour, post-renovation from $450 and disinfection from $265, with the final figure confirmed by our team for your unit. Worth saying plainly
Luce and Everyworks both show more Google reviews than Sureclean. A comparison that only flatters its author is not worth reading — on review volume, they are ahead.
How to read a cleaning company’s reviews properly
Rating and count together. 5.0 from 12 reviews is weaker evidence than 4.9 from 1,500.
Sort by newest. A lifetime average hides a recent decline.
Read the negative ones, but count them. Every business with real volume has some — what matters is how many, how recent, and whether the same issue repeats.
Look at the replies. How a company answers a complaint is what happens when it is your turn.
Check named staff. Reviews naming the same cleaners repeatedly indicate a stable employed team.
What actually goes wrong with cleaning services in Singapore
These are recurring themes in negative reviews across the category — not any one company. Each is worth asking about before you book:
The complaint
What to ask before booking
Sureclean’s answer
Cleaner did not turn up, or arrived late
Who covers a no-show, and how fast?
Employed crews with a supervisor; cover arranged by us, not you
A different cleaner every visit
Will I get the same person each week?
The same assigned crew returns for recurring bookings
Work missed against what was agreed
Is the scope written down task by task?
Scope documented per booking, checked by a supervisor
Damage with nobody taking responsibility
Are you insured, and for how much?
S$1,000,000 public liability insurance
Could not reach anyone afterwards
Who do I call — the company or a platform?
Direct line to the company: 6983 9523
Unclear who is responsible for the cleaner
Employed or freelancer?
Employed on valid MOM work permits; 400 hours training
Check us before you book
Ask for our NEA licence number, insurance cover and a written scope. We publish all three — and will tell you if we are not the right fit for your job.

The signal most people miss: what a company publishes about itself
Reviews tell you about past jobs. What a company publishes tells you what you can hold it to. Across 15 websites checked, most did not publish an NEA licence number, insurance cover, company UEN or prices. Not publishing a credential does not mean a company lacks it — but you can only verify what is written down.
How do I check a cleaning company’s reviews in Singapore?
Search the company name on Google Maps and read the rating, the total review count and the most recent reviews together. A rating without a count is meaningless: 5.0 from 12 reviews is weaker evidence than 4.9 from 1,500. Sort by newest, because a company’s service can change faster than its lifetime average.
Is a 5-star rating better than a 4.9?
Usually not. A perfect 5.0 almost always means a small review base, and a business with thousands of reviews cannot realistically hold 5.0. A 4.9 across a large volume shows sustained consistency. Treat any perfect score on a small count as insufficient evidence rather than as proof of excellence.
Why do some cleaning companies not show any reviews on their website?
There is no requirement to publish one, and plenty of good companies simply do not. Of 15 Singapore cleaning company websites checked in August 2026, eight showed no rating or review count anywhere. It is not evidence of a problem, but it does mean you have to go and check Google Maps yourself before booking.
What complaints are most common about cleaning services in Singapore?
Across the category, the recurring themes in negative reviews of any cleaning provider are: the cleaner not arriving or arriving late, a different person turning up each visit, work missed against what was agreed, damage to an item with no clear route to a claim, and difficulty reaching anyone after the job. Every one of those is a question you can ask before you book.
How many Google reviews does Sureclean have?
Sureclean is rated 4.9 stars from 1,520 Google reviews as of August 2026, and its 50 most recent reviews were all 5-star when checked in early August 2026. Ratings change, so check the live listing rather than any figure on a website, including ours.
Short answer: the right cleaning company depends on whether you want an agency (employed, supervised, insured crews) or a marketplace (fast booking, you manage the individual). This guide compares 10 providers on what each publishes — licences, insurance, reviews and prices — with our own entry first and clearly marked as ours.
Key takeaways
An agency sends employed, supervised, insured crews; a marketplace matches you to an individual. They fail differently – pick for accountability, not just price.
Recurring home cleaning starts from $22/hour*; one-off deep work is quoted per job.
Only some providers publish an NEA licence number, insurance cover or prices. You can only verify what is written down – ask for the rest.
Our own entry is listed first and openly marked as ours; competitors follow alphabetically, unranked.

How to choose a cleaning company in Singapore
NEA cleaning-business licence — required to operate; ask for the number and check it.
Public liability insurance — who pays if something is damaged, and how much cover.
Employment model — an employed, supervised crew or a matched freelancer. Neither is wrong; they fail differently.
Written scope — task-by-task, before the visit. Disputes start where scope was never written.
Review depth — 4.9★ from 1,522 reviews is stronger evidence than 5.0 from 40.

Doctor Clean vs Sureclean at a glance
Every row below is what each company publishes on its own website as of August 2026. Where a row says not published, it means the company does not state it publicly — not that it lacks it.
Sourced from each company’s own public website, August 2026.
Who is Doctor Clean?
Doctor Clean covers deep cleaning, general cleaning, post-renovation, disinfection and office work, and states 591 reviews. This describes what Doctor Clean publishes about itself, not an assessment of its service quality.
Who is Sureclean?
Sureclean Pte Ltd (UEN 201316509C) has cleaned Singapore homes and offices since 2013, from 10 Bukit Batok Crescent, #11-07 The Spire, Singapore 658079. It employs its own crews rather than matching you to freelancers, holds NEA Class 3 licence NEA240120/6509C/C3/N01 and S$1 million public liability insurance, and has cleaned more than 50,000 homes. Rated 4.9 stars from 1,520 Google reviews.
When Doctor Clean is the better choice
Choose Doctor Clean if you want a straightforward deep clean and do not need published rates. That is a genuine fit, and no single provider is right for every job in Singapore.
Is Doctor Clean or Sureclean better for cleaning in Singapore?

Sureclean employs its own crews, publishes NEA Class 3 licence NEA240120/6509C/C3/N01, carries S$1 million public liability insurance and publishes rates from $22 per hour for recurring cleaning. Does Doctor Clean publish its NEA licence and insurance?
As of August 2026: NEA licence — not published on site; insurance — not published on site. Sureclean publishes both. Not publishing a credential does not mean a company lacks it — ask any provider for the licence number before you book.
How does Doctor Clean pricing compare with Sureclean?
Doctor Clean: not published on site. Sureclean publishes recurring home cleaning from $22/hour, post-renovation from $450 and disinfection from $265, with the final figure confirmed by our team for your unit. Compare like for like — an hourly marketplace rate and a supervised per-job quote are different products.
What should I check before hiring Doctor Clean or Sureclean?
Run both providers through the same five checks: a valid NEA cleaning-business licence (ask each for the number), public liability insurance, whether the cleaner is employed on an MOM work permit or engaged as a freelancer, documented training, and review depth rather than review score.

When KMAC is the better choice
Choose KMAC if you need a single vendor for cleaning plus aircon servicing. That is a genuine fit, and no single provider is right for every job in Singapore.
Is KMAC or Sureclean better for cleaning in Singapore?
It depends what you are buying. KMAC focuses on general cleaning across homes and offices. Sureclean employs its own crews, publishes NEA Class 3 licence NEA240120/6509C/C3/N01, carries S$1 million public liability insurance and publishes rates from $22 per hour for recurring cleaning. If you need a single vendor for cleaning plus aircon servicing, KMAC may suit you better.
What does KMAC do?
KMAC states it has operated since 2010, references S$1,000,000 insurance, and covers residential and commercial cleaning plus aircon. Taken from KMAC’s own website, August 2026.
Does KMAC publish its NEA licence and insurance?
As of August 2026: NEA licence — not published on site; insurance — mentions insurance. Sureclean publishes both. Not publishing a credential does not mean a company lacks it — ask any provider for the licence number before you book.
How does KMAC pricing compare with Sureclean?
KMAC: some prices published. Sureclean publishes recurring home cleaning from $22/hour, post-renovation from $450 and disinfection from $265, with the final figure confirmed by our team for your unit. Compare like for like — an hourly marketplace rate and a supervised per-job quote are different products.
What should I check before hiring KMAC or Sureclean?
Run both providers through the same five checks: a valid NEA cleaning-business licence (ask each for the number), public liability insurance, whether the cleaner is employed on an MOM work permit or engaged as a freelancer, documented training, and review depth rather than review score.
