Tub Clean — what it does and does not do
Most Toshiba machines include a Tub Clean programme. It runs an empty high-temperature soak cycle. Run it when the machine prompts you — it is good routine maintenance and it costs nothing.
What it cannot do is scrub. It circulates hot water past the drum surfaces, which helps on a machine that is already clean and does comparatively little for one with an established layer of detergent scum on the drum’s outer face.
If your Toshiba still smells after running it, that is the clearest signal that the residue is on a surface the cycle never reaches.

Our 4-step on-site method
Every job below is carried out by our own crew as part of Sureclean’s washing machine cleaning service, on site at your home in Singapore. The method is the same whichever machine type you have — only the time on site changes.
1. Dismantle on site
The outer casing comes off and the inner drum is lifted out — in your bathroom or service yard. Nothing is taken away to a workshop.
2. High-pressure deep clean
The hidden outer surface of the drum, the housing, filter, rubber gasket and detergent dispenser are washed down with a high-pressure jet. This is the surface a wash cycle can never reach.
3. Sanitise
The full drum assembly is treated with sanitiser, then rinsed.
4. Reassemble and test-run
The machine is rebuilt and put through a full test cycle before our crew leaves, so you see it working.
What we actually find inside Singapore machines
On a typical three-to-five year old HDB machine that has never been opened, the outer drum surface carries a grey-black film of detergent scum mixed with mould. It is not visible from the door — you only see it once the drum is lifted out. In humid Singapore flats where the machine sits in an enclosed service yard or bathroom, this builds faster than in drier climates because the drum rarely dries out fully between washes.
Front loaders additionally trap residue in the rubber door gasket fold, which is where most musty smells originate. Top loaders tend to collect scum on the outer drum wall and under the pulsator plate.

When you do not need us
If your machine is under a year old, has no smell and leaves no marks on clothing, a monthly hot maintenance wash with a proper machine cleaner is genuinely enough. Deep cleaning is worth paying for when the smell keeps returning after cleaning cycles, when black flecks appear on laundry, or when the machine has never been opened up. We would rather tell you that than sell you a job you do not need.

Frequently asked questions
What does Toshiba’s Tub Clean actually do?
It runs an empty high-temperature cycle to discourage build-up on the inner drum. It is worth running monthly, but it circulates hot water rather than scrubbing, so it cannot clean the drum’s outer surface where persistent odour develops.
Will cleaning void my Toshiba warranty?
Our crew dismantles and reassembles to the manufacturer’s sequence and test-runs the machine before leaving. If your machine is still within Toshiba’s warranty period, check your warranty terms first, as some brands require authorised servicing.
Does the Toshiba tub clean cycle need a cleaning agent?
It works better with one. Running it with plain water gives a mild result; running it with a proper machine cleaner is meaningfully more effective. Neither reaches the drum’s outer surface.
How much does Toshiba washing machine cleaning cost?
From $188 for a Toshiba top loader and from $288 for a Toshiba front loader or washer-dryer combo. The job takes one to three hours in your home.
